The UK’s points-based system organises both study and work routes under a single framework, which makes the connections between them more explicit than in most countries.
Study route
The Student visa requires a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from a licensed sponsor, proof of maintenance funds, and English language proficiency at the required level.
The Graduate route allows eligible graduates to remain and work for a defined period after completing their course, without needing employer sponsorship for that period.
Work route
The Skilled Worker visa requires a job offer from a licensed sponsor at or above the relevant skill and salary thresholds for the occupation. Sponsorship is central — the employer, not the applicant, holds the sponsor licence.
Other categories exist for global talent, intracompany transfers, and specific sector shortages, each with its own eligibility structure.
What Pakistani applicants should prepare early
- Academic and professional qualifications documented to UK ENIC standards where required
- Tuberculosis test results where applicable
- Financial evidence held for the specified period before applying
- Employer sponsorship documentation for work routes
How WaleedMJ Law helps
WaleedMJ Law is based in Lahore and advises on the Pakistan-side legal and documentary requirements of an application — attestation, police clearance, educational document verification, powers of attorney and coordinating with the destination country’s process. We are not licensed to practise immigration law in this jurisdiction and do not represent clients before its immigration authority; where destination-country legal advice is needed, we say so and point you toward it rather than proceeding regardless. Final decisions rest entirely with that country’s immigration authority, and we do not promise, guarantee or predict any outcome.
