Germany’s routes for study and skilled work are well established and, for many occupations, more accessible than those of some other popular destinations, though the process has its own distinct requirements.
Study route
A national student visa is required for a course of study, generally supported by proof of admission, a blocked account or other accepted proof of financial resources, and health insurance.
Graduates may be entitled to a residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment related to their qualification for a defined period after completing their studies.
Work route
The EU Blue Card is available to applicants with a recognised university degree and a qualifying job offer above the relevant salary threshold, and is one of the more widely used routes for skilled migrants from outside the EU.
A Job Seeker visa allows a defined period in Germany to search for qualifying employment in person, without a prior job offer.
What Pakistani applicants should prepare early
- Degree recognition and, where required, an Anabin database check on the awarding institution
- Proof of financial resources in the form the mission accepts
- German or English language evidence depending on the course or role
- Health insurance valid from arrival
