Sweden Study and Work Visas: A Guide for Pakistani Applicants

The Swedish student residence permit and work permit route, outlined for applicants from Pakistan.

Sweden’s work permit system is employer-driven and comparatively transparent in its documentary requirements, though processing depends heavily on the completeness of the initial application.

Study route

A residence permit for higher education studies generally requires admission to a recognised institution, proof of insurance, and evidence of funds to support the applicant for the duration of study.

Work route

A work permit requires a specific job offer meeting published terms of employment, with the employer providing details of the offer as part of the application. There is no general points-based skilled migration category separate from having an actual job offer.

A track for job seekers exists, allowing a defined period in Sweden to search for qualifying work or explore starting a business.

What Pakistani applicants should prepare early

  • A confirmed job offer meeting the published salary and terms requirements
  • Employer-provided offer documentation in the required format
  • Proof of insurance for study applications
  • Educational documents where the route or role requires them

How WaleedMJ Law helps

WaleedMJ Law is based in Lahore and advises on the Pakistan-side legal and documentary requirements of an application — attestation, police clearance, educational document verification, powers of attorney and coordinating with the destination country’s process. We are not licensed to practise immigration law in this jurisdiction and do not represent clients before its immigration authority; where destination-country legal advice is needed, we say so and point you toward it rather than proceeding regardless. Final decisions rest entirely with that country’s immigration authority, and we do not promise, guarantee or predict any outcome.

More about the practice

This is general legal information, not advice. It describes how a process generally works and does not address the facts of any particular matter. Reading it does not create a lawyer–client relationship, and outcomes depend on the specific facts of each case.
